Yoga for Beginners

If you have never been to a yoga class before, you might not know what to expect  and have some questions. Please find below a list of our FAQ. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us using our contact form.

What class should I go to?

If it is your very first time on a yoga mat, we recommend you come to a class labeled "Gentle" or "Beginners". These classes are designed for students who have never done yoga before and our qualified teachers will guide you through the practice step-by-step. You can also come along to a Restorative or Yin Yoga class as they are very slow practices that do not require any prior yoga experience.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable loose clothing that you can easily move in. Avoid trousers with big pockets or zippers as they might be uncomfortable in some postures. If you come to a Restorative or Yin Yoga class, you might want to bring a pair of warm socks and a jumper as the body temperature can drop during relaxation.

What if I have an injury?

Many people come to yoga for its healing capacity to recover from injuries or chronic illness. Please check with your GP if you are not sure if yoga is suitable for your current state of health and discuss any medical conditions and injuries with the teacher before every class.

One of the many benefits of yoga is that it aims to re-establish our natural balance within the body and there are different types of yoga to cater for individual needs.

Injuries and illness are often caused by an imbalance of the elements within the body. Someone who, for example, suffers from joint inflammation, has literally too much heat in the body. A cooling practice like Yin Yoga, Gentle Yoga or Restorative Yoga can help to alleviate the symptoms but a dynamic and heating practice should be avoided while having any kind of inflammation in the body.

Do I need to bring a yoga mat?

No, we provide mats and other yoga props such as blankets, belts, blocks and bolsters at the studio free of charge.
