Nicola Glen-Backhurst

Nicola Glen-Backhurst. Yoga Teacher at Leyton Yoga.

With over 20 years of personal yoga practice to draw upon, I have been teaching regularly for 4 years now. I hold a BWYQ 500 hour teaching diploma and am fully insured and first aid qualified. I continue to develop my personal practice weekly with Anna Ashby at Triyoga and under the guidance of Cesca Cross at Yoga Body Centre. I am deeply interested in the healing effects of sound and have started working with the Tibetan Singing Bowls in my own practice and in my classes and run regular collaborative workshops with an incredible sound healer. A registered womb yoga teacher, I have a special interest in women’s health and recently I completed a training in women’s yoga therapy with Uma Dinsmore Tuli and Sivani Mata. (In my ‘other’ job I am a science teacher with a PGCE and MA in Science education). My own practice draws on a variety of traditions and changes according to my physical, mental and emotional needs and I hope to enable my students to do the same in my classes. The taught practice is Hatha Yoga and comprises asana (physical posture) - both restorative and dynamic, pranayama (breath control), relaxation and meditation, interspersed with teachings from the yoga sutras, Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads and the Vinyana Bhairava Tantra. The class is interwoven with mudra and mantra to build a multidimensional embodied experience to experience the transformative power of this beautiful practice. I would love to see you on the mat! Love Nicola x
